JAPANTENNA’S MISSION
“Deepen the understanding of Japan’s cultural complexity and regional diversity, and to nurture communities that strengthen US-Japan relations.”
ABOUT US
Japantenna is a non-profit project created in early 2021 in San Francisco’s Japantown. It is a storefront that showcases the culture, food, and travel attractions of Japan’s 47 prefectures, one at a time.
We have two primary goals.
Our first goal is to attract visitors to San Francisco’s Japantown, by introducing the unique and beautiful characteristics of each prefecture.
Our second goal is to increase awareness and spark interest in the various prefectures, leading to travel, trade, and goodwill.
Japantenna is led by a volunteer steering group from the Japanese and Japanese American community in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The pilot storefront featuring Kagoshima was organized as a project of the community non-profit organization Japantown Task Force, Inc.
LEADERSHIP
The Japantenna project was co-founded by Kim Kolbe, Kaz Maniwa, Emily Murase, Kenta Takamori and Tatsuki Tomita in early 2021.
